Hyperhidrosis
Conveniently located to serve Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM
BOTOX® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) when topical agents don’t work. BOTOX® treatment helps control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When sweat glands don’t receive the chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.
Is This Treatment Right for Me?
Botox for hyperhidrosis is ideal for patients experiencing excess sweating in areas like the armpits, soles of the feet, face, and palms of the hands. Patients who have tried prescription antiperspirants without the desired results may find this treatment to be the more effective option.
Patients who have already undergone surgical sweat gland procedures, who have other medical conditions causing the hyperhidrosis, or who have blood-clotting disorders may not be the best candidates for Botox treatment.
The Procedure
The procedure is relatively straightforward. A small volume of Botox solution is injected into the affected underarm area through a very fine needle. The needle is placed just under the skin, so you may experience some injection-related discomfort. You will receive multiple injections based on your doctor’s assessment of the area that needs to be treated.
After the Treatment Session
No recovery time or downtime is required after Botox for hyperhidrosis. A minor degree of tenderness, bruising, or swelling in the treatment regions is normal during the first 12 hours after the procedure. Patients should not be exposed to extreme heat or participate in physically taxing exercise routines for around 48 hours.
It typically takes around seven days or less for the treatment’s results to take full effect. An additional treatment session may also be necessary. Hyperhidrosis is partially or completely resolved for around 4 to 12 months (depending on the treatment area), after which time new Botox injections can be performed.
Botox for Hyperhidrosis Cost
The price of Botox injections to treat hyperhidrosis is impacted by several factors. Cost is primarily impacted by the size and number of treatment areas. In some cases, health insurance providers may cover some or all of the cost of treatment.
Botox has been used therapeutically for over 16 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. In fact, Botox for therapeutic use remains one of the most widely researched medicines in the world.
