What’s the Difference Between Juvéderm®, Voluma® and Vollure®?

So many injectables so little time! If you’re a bit befuddled by our extensive range of dermal fillers, you’re not alone! At AlluraDerm MD, the two questions we get asked on a routine basis are, “How do I know which fillers are right for me?” and “What’s the difference?”
Fortunately, your questions are what we live for at AlluraDerm! We love it when you put our expertise and experience to the test! To help you better navigate your options, we put together the highlights of our Juvéderm® family of fillers, plus treatment tips for getting your very best results.
The scoop on Juvéderm
You are probably already well aware of the name Juvéderm because it’s been around a long time. Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid (HA)-based filler that was first on the block, so to speak, helping to smooth lines and wrinkles around the nose, mouth and chin while also plumping up lips to perfection. In recent years, the Juvéderm family quickly expanded to five fillers: Juvéderm Vollure®, Juvéderm Volbella®, Juvéderm Voluma®, Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC.
Here’s a simple breakdown of the five fillers, organized by the area of face/concern they treat:
Cheeks
- Juvéderm Voluma XC
Chin
- Juvéderm Voluma XC
Lines
- Juvéderm Vollure XC
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC
Lips
- Juvéderm Volbella XC
- Juvéderm Ultra XC
During your appointment, we will closely analyze your facial features and draw from our years of experience and training to pinpoint the precise filler regimen for your unique characteristics. In the meantime, here are general guidelines for each filler:
Voluma (cheeks and chin)
Voluma corrects age-related volume loss in the midface for a lift. This robust filler is substantial, made of larger HA molecules, to provide structure to the cheeks. Its more substantial weight is ideal for lifting the cheeks and enhancing volume for up to two years per treatment. Recently, Voluma received clearance for the chin/jawline area as well; its robust formula is ideal for providing definition to the jawline and chin, helping to improve sagging jowls, recessed chin and other concerns.
Volbella and Ultra XC (lips, undereye hollows)
Volbella is formulated to provide subtle, natural-looking lip enhancement. It’s made with smaller, more delicate HA molecules to provide subtle lip augmentation while smoothing lip/smoker’s lines. Volbella’s delicate formulation is also ideal for improving undereye hollows. For more dramatic lip augmentation, we use Ultra XC, which is formulated with larger HA molecules to enhance volume and smooth lines/wrinkles on the lips and face.
Vollure and Ultra Plus XC (lines, wrinkles)
Vollure and Ultra Plus XC are formulated to help smooth nasolabial folds, marionette lines and other lines and wrinkles. We love using Vollure to add subtle volume and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds for up to 18 months and Ultra Plus XC to provide benefits for 12+ months.
Tips For Best Injectables Results
For optimal and balanced results, we typically combine several fillers during your session. Tips for reducing side effects like swelling, redness and bruising include:
- Avoiding NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories), alcohol and other blood-thinning substances at least two days before and after your session. Blood thinners can increase bruising and swelling.
- Apply a medical-grade post-treatment serum to speed healing and reduce side effects.
- Eat pineapple and other anti-inflammatory foods.
- In the hours immediately following your session, apply ice off and on to reduce swelling. Ice helps shrink blood vessels and reduces swelling and pinpoint bleeding.
- Keep your hands off your treatment sites! Touching your face can introduce germs and move your filler to undesirable locations.
- Be patient! It can take up to two weeks for your injectables to fully settle and reveal your true results.
