As we age, we lose tissue from our underlying facial fat layer. This creates an overall loss of volume in the look of our face. As this happens, the skin beings to droop and make the face look emaciated, especially in the cheeks and lower face.

Juvederm Voluma is the perfect solution for volume loss in the cheeks. These injections have been specifically designed to quickly and effectively restore cheek volume. The results of these injections have been proven to last for more than one and a half years, and patients who come back for reinjection after this time period often require lesser injections.

Compared to other procedures like fat grafting, Juvederm Voluma is a relatively painless and easily manageable procedure. Even in comparison with other injections, Juvederm comes out on top, as it is a thick gel-like substance that is not easily absorbed by the skin. Injections like Botox are completely different from Juvederm, as they are aimed at gradually relaxing the muscles over time rather than instantly making the cheeks plumper. Juvederm Voluma is a faster, safer, and longer-lasting solution to volume loss in the cheeks, chin, and lower facial area.

Am I the Right Candidate?

Men and women between 35 and 65 years old are the best candidates for these injections. Patients under 18 years of age and over 65 can still get these injections, but there have not been proven results for these groups. Side effects may also become more of an issue for these age groups. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised against the injections, as they have never been tested on this particular group.

Patients who are planning to have chemical peels or laser treatments after the injections must inform their doctors, as there may be inflammation and side effects if proper precautions are not followed. Patients are advised to inform their doctors about their medical history during their consultation. Blood thinners like aspirin and ibuprofen must be avoided, along with strenuous activity and smoking.

The Procedure

During a consultation, the expected results of the surgery are mapped out. The surgeon then decides on the number of injections needed for the patient. The patient is given an appointment for the injection. At this appointment, the doctor administers the injections with little to no local anesthesia. Numbing creams are applied if the patient is feeling pain or is facing discomfort.

The Results of the Treatment

Once the injections are administered, the results are evident in a few minutes. If the patient feels sore after the surgery, Paracetamol may be given. During the first treatment, most patients see a great difference in their skin volume. These results can further be enhanced through more sessions. The follow-up sessions will not require as much time for completion, as lesser amounts of the injectable will typically be required.
