The best splurge for next season

We’re still busy decking the halls, but in the halls of Vogue magazine, they’re apparently already thinking spring. The magazine recently came out with Vogue’s Beauty Guide for Spring 2015: A Shorthand Guide to the 10 Best Trends. Before I could get over the fact that the editors were already pushing spring fashion trends before I have even dusted off my box of holiday decorations, one section in particular caught my attention:

“The best investment you can make next season is a standing appointment with your facialist. Fashion’s fascination with clean, come-as-you-are skin, a sweaty post-workout flush, and the occasional smattering of freckles takes precedent over serious camouflage — and (bonus) cuts your party prep time in half.”

According to Vogue, along with graphic eyeliner and undone hair, “supernatural” skin is gracing the runways of the biggest names of fashion.

Here at AlluraDerm, my medical day spa and skin care clinic in Albuquerque, my staff and I have come up with a timeline to help you prep for your make-under.

  • Fall: Start using a retinol cream. A form of vitamin A, retinol works to enhance your skin’s texture through exfoliation and regeneration of cells. But it’s no overnight fix, and you may need to build up a tolerance by gradually increasing your applications. Start now, and by springtime, you’ll notice softer, brighter skin and fewer fine lines. One tip: Be sure to apply sunscreen daily (even in the fall and winter months) when using retinol to get the maximum benefit while avoiding irritation. We recommend SkinMedica® Retinol Complex 0.5 for a fantastic, over-the-counter option.
  • Winter: Dry winter conditions and bright sunlight in Albuquerque can leave your skin looking dull. Treat yourself to a chemical facial peel, such as the Vitalize Peel® by SkinMedica to reduce sun damage and the overall signs of aging. This treatment will also give your retinol routine a big boost by removing dead skin that can act as a barrier.
  • Spring: Put the finishing touches on your au naturel appearance with a BOTOX® Cosmetic session. By softening crow’s feet and forehead lines, you’ll be able to achieve that fresh-faced look from the runways. Keep in mind you’ll want to seek out an experienced BOTOX provider to pull off the natural-appearing look.
