BOTOX® and our Albuquerque Med Spa: 2 Big Anniversaries
This month, AlluraDerm MD celebrates our seventh anniversary. It is truly an honor to serve the Albuquerque area by providing the most state-of-the-art body contouring and anti-aging treatments available. Our personal milestone also happens to coincide with another anniversary: the one marking 25 years since approval of the first 2 uses of BOTOX® Cosmetic in the United States, including here in Albuquerque.
Even in its beginnings, BOTOX was a life-changer. But it wasn’t always a household name. Here’s a look at some of BOTOX’s biggest milestones:
- 1989: Oculinum, Inc. (later acquired by Allergan) receives approval to market Oculinum (today known as BOTOX) in the United States for treatment of 2 eye muscle disorders: strabismus (commonly known as crossed eyes) and blephareospasm (uncontrolled blinking of the eyelid).
- 2000: BOTOX® is approved to treat abnormal head position and neck pain that results from cervical dystonia in people ages 16 and up.
- 2002: Allergan receives approval from the FDA to market the drug under the name BOTOX Cosmetic to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
- 2013: Allergan receives approval to market BOTOX to improve the appearance of the lines commonly known as “crow’s feet” in adults.
Over the years, BOTOX has also been approved to treat conditions such as overactive bladder and chronic migraine, and the list continues to grow. We are celebrating the anniversary of the first uses of BOTOX with a special for our clients in Albuquerque. This month, BOTOX treatments are $11/unit (regularly $13/unit).
