Experience & Background

Dr. Lam is the #1 provider of Botox® and the Juvéderm® Collection of Fillers in the entire state of New Mexico and is ranked among the top 50 providers of Botox® and the Juvéderm® Collection of Fillers in the country. Dr. Lam is board-certified in aesthetic medicine. He has been named Top Doc for medical aesthetics five years in a row. Dr. Lam is also a trainer for Botox® and Juvéderm® injections and he has been selected to be on the advisory committee by the makers of Botox®.

Dr. Lam completed medical school in 1995 at Otago Medical School in New Zealand and was personally picked by the president of the anesthesiology board in Australia to train in anesthesiology. He completed his residency training in anesthesiology in 2001 at Sir Charles Gairdner in Western Australia. In 2002 he became a clinical assistant professor in anesthesiology at the University of Texas at Houston and was one of the anesthesiologists involved in the first quadruple-organ transplant in Texas. Dr. Lam was also an instructor for advanced airway management and regional anesthesia. In 2010, he was invited by the University of New Mexico as an associate professor to spearhead medical injection conferences at a national level, and he has stayed in New Mexico ever since.

Dr. Lam also has a strong background in clinical and translational science research. He was appointed as an adjunct associate professor with the Department of Neuroscience at the University of New Mexico and has collaborated with studies funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH). He has also been the principal investigator for many clinical trials that are published in peer-reviewed journals. As such, Dr. Lam is able to filter through fad treatments that may or may not work and recommend treatments with the strongest and most robust safety and efficacy data.

Professional Philosophy

Dr. Lam explains his personal philosophy on medical aesthetics and patient care, saying, “Some people have asked me what made me move from anesthesiology to aesthetic medicine. In my career as an anesthesiologist, I have saved more patients from disasters than most can imagine. One day, after I had completed my assessment on a patient going for cancer surgery and was about to bring her into the operating room, she reached out to me and asked me if it was okay for her to keep her lipstick on. She said she never goes anywhere without her lipstick, and that if she has her lipstick on, everything is going to be all right.”

Dr. Lam continues, “I realized there and then how powerful a person’s appearance is to his or her wellbeing. As a physician in aesthetic medicine, I have the ability to improve a person’s outlook merely by providing treatments that allow them to feel like the best version of themselves. This allows them to spread positivity in their relationships and interactions. To me, there is nothing more powerful and gratifying than to see the positive effects of the work I do.”
